Panasonic on have brought out what’s billed as the lightest ever full-spec 12-inch notebook, and it looks awesome!

The Toughbook S9 has a full-speed, 2.4GHz Core i5 and a built-in DVD burner but weighs just three pounds. Even with the specifications, it can still run for up to 11 hours on a stock battery and is rugged enough to survive a 2.5-foot drop to its base or a one-foot drop from any angle.

The rugged build continues with a crush-resistant shell and a splash-resistant keyboard. Wireless is limited to 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in base trim, but an optional Qualcomm Gobi chipset gives it both EVDO and HSPA for 3G.

The S9 joins the also impressive Toughbook C1, that weighs in at just 3.2 pounds. But the most impressive features of the S9 is how they managed to squeeze a Core i5-520M processor, 2GB RAM, a shock mounted 320GB hard drive and an optical DVD drive for good measure into it’s featherweight laptop shell.

Impressed? Panasonic even go as far as allowing the Toughbook S9 to withstand being dropped from 2.5 foot whilst operating, at the same time as having a spill-resistant keyboard, and taking a maximum of 220 pounds of pressure on its lid and base.
