Wearable Camera Drone
Intel has been holding a Make It Wearable (MIW) Challenge to encourage people to come up with innovative wearable devices. One of the finalists of the project is Nixie, a camera that you wear like a wristwatch where the straps unfold and turn into a remote-controlled drone that can fly off your wrist and spy on stuff take aerial photos or videos of your friends.
The device is still in development, with project leader Christoph Kohstall saying he’d like the next stage of the project for people to be able to control the quadcopter using gestures, flying off to take a picture and returning to your wrist like some kind of photo-based drone-falconry.
It’s all early days yet and there’s lot to do before a product like this could come to market, but it’s an intriguing wearable that hopefully has a future.
You can find out more about the project and get updates from their website.
